About Us
Our Story
Gunther UK’s journey began in 1988, when experienced businessman Don Heendeniya partnered with Mr. Herbert Günther to establish Gunther UK Limited. At the time, Günther Heisskanaltechnik GmbH was just five years old and together they introduced the UK market to Günther’s innovative externally heated low-voltage 5V hot runner systems.
From the very beginning, the company was built on expertise, dedication, and strong relationships. Don’s daughter, Ramani Hopgood, soon joined the team and remains Joint Managing Director today. Encouraged by growing success in the UK, Reiner Heendeniya also joined the company, and now leads alongside Ramani following Don’s retirement in 2003.
Over the years, Gunther UK has expanded its offerings to complement the renowned Günther system, introducing premium products from global suppliers — including mould base and component specialist KNARR in 2011, and fluidic couplings expert RTC Couplings at the start of 2024.
In 2024, the company took a bold step by launching its own brand, OptiMach®, offering fully machined bolsters and special parts. Designed for customer models with market-leading delivery times and competitive pricing, OptiMach® demonstrates our commitment to innovation, quality, and performance.

Our Team
Reiner Heendeniya Sales Director
I’ve been with Gunther UK for over 30 years now. I’ve always enjoyed working with people, I'm passionate about establishing and building long-lasting relationships and, with the help of a strong team, delivering the optimum solutions for our clients. I take pride in helping our business grow through teamwork and trust. When I’m not at work, you'll usually find me on the golf course - although more often than not I am unfortunately in the woods looking for my ball.
Ramani Hopgood Operations Director
I’ve been with Gunther UK since 1990 and enjoy working with customers, many of whom I have known for many years. Usually office based, I am often the main point of contact for ensuring orders and projects run efficiently from start to finish. You'll also see me at various networking events or trade shows where I enjoy catching up with customers. Outside of work skiing is my favourite escape when I have the time and I also enjoy running.
Wayne McSwiney Technical Service Engineer
I’ve been with Gunther since early 2022 and have more than 40 years experience in the plastics tooling and moulding industry, starting as an apprentice toolmaker at 16 before moving into a more specialised role in the hot runner sector. I'm hands-on by nature and have a strong understanding of injection mould tooling. I enjoy building strong relationships with customers and take pride in providing a first class service. Outside of work, I am a keen sports fan - particularly rugby - and enjoy the gym, long weekend walks and a day at the races
Emma Burchell
Sales Support
I joined Gunther in April 2023, bringing 30 years of sales support experience to my role. Together with developing existing customer relationships I thrive on new business development and promoting the Gunther brand. By far the biggest daily challenge is keeping Reiner and Wayne in check.
Melanie Tremain
I’ve been supporting Gunther UK with marketing since 2023, focusing on strengthening our brand presence and helping to showcase the expertise of the team. I enjoy working closely with the directors to share the stories behind our work and highlight the value we bring to customers across the plastics industry. Outside of work, I love spending time with family and friends, getting out for a walk when the weather plays along, and switching off by spending time in the kitchen cooking.
